When I headed off to pick up a new SD card for my new Android tablet (more info on that later), I stopped in at the nearby used computer hardware store to see what they had.

Apparently, it was a good thing I popped in.
They had two video capture cards, one was a Philips' LifeView tuner card, and the other a rather large one by Canopus.

Further research into the Canopus card revealed that it was originally rather expensive, $599 for the card and $499 for the hardware video encoder board added on, for a total of around $1100 when it was new back in 2004.

However, since I can't figure out what cables to use for the Canopus card, I'm currently trying out the Philips tuner card.

Merely viewing the input data is quite easy, but trying to record from the card could be rather tricky, as most tutorials for recording stuff are using very outdated versions of the software I have, which (strangely enough) means that the current user interface is missing several of the options that were required for working with tuner cards.

Unfortunately, I'm starting to get a headache trying to figure out how each program is supposed to work with regards to video capture.
Everybody does things differently, and EVERYONE requires me to know far, far more than I already do.

The part that's really, really annoying is that almost every piece of software I want to use for recording the video stream requires textural input for configuring the tv tuner card.
Nobody (that I've found so far, anyway) has provided a graphical method for configuring and capturing the video stream.

I'm going to take a break, but I'm going to keep on trying, as I want to preserve my Wayne and Shuster collection.
