I gots a new CD!
Aug. 3rd, 2007 05:46 pmThursday while shopping for a birthday gift for my sister, I browsed through a local music store for an album on her wish list and found an album called "Yo-Yo Ma Plays Ennio Morricone".
Now, I know and like Yo-Yo Ma's cello playing, and knew I'd heard only one of his pieces before (Chi Mai, look it up, it's quite an interesting piece), so I bought it.
(an added bonus was that the price tag said $20.99 but it went through at $9.99!)
It turns out, though I hadn't known it at the time, that he'd done the music for The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly (well what did you expect? I haven't watched the whole thing yet!).
The theme from that movie is actually included on the album, though it doesn't quite sound as dynamic as it does in the movie, which is probably due to the fact that primary instrument doesn't seem to be capable of carrying the dynamics when it takes the lead (a cello doesn't quite work for the lead in a swiftly-moving piece).
Aside from all that, it is a very nice album, I'm glad I grabbed it when I did.
