Rubber band guns
Jan. 18th, 2011 12:25 amSomebody named OggCraft on YouTube has made an impressive array of rubber band guns, with a wide range of firing mechanisms.
For instance, most of the gun mechanisms I've seen so far use a plastic wheel with notches in it to hold the rubber bands with a plastic trigger, which felt like a real cop-out to me, as I'm sure that the entire gun should be able to be made out of wood.
To start with, here's a very slim gun that you might be able to stick in a narrow, long pocket:

Here's a very simple design that has only one moving part and is "pull" auto:

This one uses string for the trigger, but isn't terribly accurate due to the pull required to release the bands:

(it's also kind of "Gangsta style")
Another one with a "slim" design. This time, it doesn't fold, but has an interesting ratcheting mechanism for advancing the band-ejection cam:

Here's a unique mechanism that lifts the bands up a ratcheting slope:

Another take on the ratcheting slope, except this works a little more simply:

A combination of the ratcheting slope and the lifting cam mechanisms:

On the whole, you gotta admit the guy's got lots of talent.
He's also been asked a lot whether the guns he makes are for sale, so there at least seems to be a market for such things.
