Crochet and panto

Yeah, I know, it’s weird to be a guy and do yarn crafts, but hey, I never claimed to be normal.
I’m probably one of the least normal people I know of, but that really isn’t saying much...
Anyway, I was introduced to a social site for knitters and hook-wielders called Ravelry.
You can find patterns, groups, post projects, and generally chat with a wide range of people who all like to work with yarn, needles and hooks.
(drawback: You do need to create an account with them before you can do anything on their site. Just so you’re warned)
I’ve created an account (which you can find here) and uploaded info on the afghan I’m currently working on.
(interesting thing about that. They have a way to enter the name of the pattern you’re using, and when I entered “Redheart's Trip Around The World Throw”, it actually knew about the pattern and suggested a link to it. Pretty intelligent software on there)
Anyway, I haven’t started to delve into the social side of things yet, but we’ll see if I get there.
The afghan I’m working on is getting too large to carry with me to rehearsals, which is kind of sad for me, as it restricts me (again) to working on scarves and similar smaller projects, (or starting other afghans, which isn’t a terribly good idea)
Not that there’s anything inherently bad about that, it’s just a little disappointing, is all.
It really is a lovely afghan, even as unfinished as it is right now.
(you can find pictures of it under the Projects section of my profile)
There’s a heck of a lot of free crochet patterns available online, and Ravelry makes it nice and easy to find loads of them.
Just about every single yarn manufacturer has a website with hundreds, if not thousands, of patterns, and who knows how many companies make yarn?
I guess I won’t be running out of patterns anytime soon!
Anyway, panto rehearsals continue apace. And what a pace it is! =>.<=
Canadian Thanksgiving is coming up in a week and a half or so, and if we do a good job of learning all we’ve got thus far at the next rehearsal, we just might get the next weekend off!
Unfortunately, my first day of work after being off for two or three months was the Friday before this last weekend, and I was thoroughly tired out after that, which meant that I hadn’t quite fully recovered by Saturday.
Couple that with the new very high-energy dance routine we have for one of the songs, and I had to sit out for the last half-hour.
On the positive side, it did mean that I actually had the ability to much more carefully observe the wild gyrations we’d have to go through to perform the new routine, so I have much better notes than I ordinarily would.
Though I’ll definitely need to bring some proper energy bars next week to help stave off that total energy loss I had last time.
On the whole, however, we’re actually doing rather well, particularly on the singing side.
The waltz is coming along pretty well, and I haven’t stepped on my partner’s toes much if at all, which I’m sure she appreciates.
I have to say that I rather like my dance partner.
She has a nice sense of humour (what I’ve seen of it so far, anyway), is somewhat sassy, likes to tease (but doesn’t overdo it), and isn’t afraid to be herself.
Not sure what it is about this year, but the songs really seem to hit the nail on the head much of the time.
The last rehearsal, our pianist wasn’t there, so our choreographer and vocal director had to run the music player system themselves, and one of them had accidentally found the song the villains sing, and let me tell you, it is very apros po for villains!
All the songs we’ve been told about thus far has fit extremely well into the show, and (or so I’m led to understand) a few of them are original numbers.
Anyway, it’s still what, almost three months before the show goes on, and we’re already doing quite well.
The director said that he can hardly wait until we put the chorus together with the principle actors and see how the whole show comes together.
I have to say I’m eagerly awaiting the same thing, and I know it’s going to be fantastic. =^.^=
I don’t suppose anybody on here is going to be able to come up to see it, would they?
